We will begin our tour by meeting at Santa Maria Elisabetta on Lido Island, where we’ll rent bikes and get ready to explore the island. You can choose from a variety of bikes, including city bikes, tandems, e-bikes, fat bikes, or e-fat bikes, which will be pre-booked for you. This stop will take about 15 minutes.
Next, we will visit the Cimitero Ebraico, Venice's main Jewish cemetery from 1386 until the 18th century. Today, it’s a peaceful garden, and from the gate, we can see ancient tombs with designs ranging from Venetian gothic to Ottoman styles. We’ll spend 15 minutes here.
We’ll then make our way to Chiesa Di San Nicolo Al Lido, a church where the traditional "Marriage of the Sea" ceremony used to take place, symbolizing Venice’s maritime dominance. This stop will last 15 minutes.
After that, we’ll bike through a protected natural zone and continue along an old pier between the sea and the harbour mouth, eventually reaching the Faro di San Nicolò. The lighthouse offers stunning views of the Lido coastline, as well as the Grand Hotel des Bains and Hotel Excelsior. We’ll take a 15-minute break here.
Our next stop is the Grand Hotel des Bains, a former luxury hotel built in 1900. It’s famous for Thomas Mann’s stay in 1911 and for being featured in films like Death in Venice and The English Patient. We’ll spend 15 minutes exploring the area.
Following that, we’ll head to Ristorante Mostra Del Cinema, the site of the world’s oldest film festival, which takes place annually at the historic Palazzo del Cinema. The nearby Hotel Excelsior, dating back to 1908, hosts producers and actors during the festival. We’ll stay here for 20 minutes.
Next, we’ll bike along the Murazzi, a scenic route along the Adriatic Sea. The Murazzi is an impressive 18th-century engineering work designed to protect the lagoon from high seas. This stop will last 15 minutes.
We’ll then visit L’Oasi delle Dune Alberoni, a beautiful natural beach surrounded by a maritime pine forest. This peaceful area, often deserted except for birds and kite surfers, was an inspiration for poets like Shelley and Byron. We’ll take 15 minutes to enjoy the view.
Our next stop will be Malamocco, a small fishing village on the island. We’ll bike through its canals and narrow streets, experiencing a quieter side of Venice with just a few churches and a Gothic palazzo. This stop will last 15 minutes.
We’ll continue along the lagoon side of the island to Poveglia, where we’ll have views of Lazzaretto Vecchio. This island once served as a quarantine station and later as a mental hospital. It’s often featured in paranormal shows. We’ll stay here for 15 minutes.
Next, we’ll pass by Lazzaretto Vecchio, an island that housed a hospital during the plague epidemics and later served as a military post. This stop will also take 15 minutes.
We’ll then visit Isola di San Lazzaro degli Armeni, a small island that has been home to the Mekhitarists, an Armenian Catholic congregation, since 1717. We’ll pause here for 15 minutes.
Finally, we’ll bike to the Grande Albergo Ausonia Hungaria, a historic hotel from 1913 known for its beautiful ceramic tiles on the main facade. We’ll wrap up our tour here, spending 15 minutes to admire the building.
