TRIP HIGHLIGHTS AND DESCRIPTION
We will start our bike tour in our shop near the Torres de Serranos, one of the old gothic gates that used to be part of the city wall, to protect Valencia from invaders.
Our route will lie across the "lungs" of the city, the Turia Gardens. Today, it is one of the Europe's largest urban parks showcasing a fabulous mix of sports fields, playgrounds, ponds, bridges, green alleys, fountains, flowering plants, bushes and trees representing flora from all over the world. You will enjoy immensely to cycle across the park.
Before hitting our main destination, the City of Arts and Sciences, we will pull up at one of the favorite city venues for orchestra performances, concerts and other cultural events, the dome-shaped Palace of Music. If you are a classic music zealot, you should definitely get a ticket to this music hall. After a short halt, back on bikes again!
The next stop will be probably the most popular playground both for kids and their parents in the city, the Gulliver Park with its 70-meter long figure of Gulliver lying on the floor with his clothes and hair serving as ramps, slides and stairs.
And here comes the highlight of the show, - with the glorious Turia Garden behind, we arrive at the marvellous futuristic structure of the City of Arts and Sciences constructed by the genius of Santiago Calatrava.
This complex of six buildings is a multipurpose space for hosting various scientific and cultural events taking place in the city.
The Oceanogràfic occupying one of the buildings is the largest aquarium in Europe and recreates all the marine ecosystems of the planet. Though tickets are not cheap, it is definitely worth every penny.
Another gem in the crown of the City of Arts and Sciences is the human eye-shaped Hemisfèric theatre, an IMAX 3D cinema in which amazing, digital projections take place.
The Príncipe Felipe Science Museum, also part of the complex, has become a reference point for interactive science. While stimulating curiosity and thinking, it also amuses the public by its interactive exhibits and witty experiments.
The spectacular and majestic building of the Palacio de las Artes Reina Sofía, which accommodates venues for opera, music, ballet and theatre, will linger in your memories for a long time.
Finally, you will see the most recent addition to the family of buildings making up the City of Arts and Sciences, El Agora. This huge oval shaped structure hosts all types events ranging from sporting events, concerts and exhibitions to conferences.
Some people say that seeing once is better than hearing twice and this is particularly true about the City of Arts and Science. Pelican Bikes will be happy to be your guide around this architectural miracle.
